Wedding Ceremony: Engaging the Sense of Sight (1)

Of all the senses, this topic needs a few passes! First: color. The richest weddings in terms of color over which I’ve presided have had either Korean or Indian partners. The dresses, flowers and hangings have all been simply saturated with color. Each has been gorgeous. I grew up with a mom who painted in oils and used a similar palette around the home, so I love saturated colors.

It’s not often that people dare to use brilliant color at their wedding ceremonies or receptions. Maybe because I’m a Middle-Aged Broad, er Bride, the thing I felt the clearest about were the colors and the depth of them. There is, it must be said, a fair amount of drama in my make-up… so even if I had done white, I would have had to contrast it with black!

But instead I chose turquoise (the Evans family color – quite possibly decided upon because that’s the color of a summer swimming pool! And every Evans looks good in a pool!), fushcia, black and gold. The weddings I talked about with one partner’s coming from a culture where color is vital and vibrant caught the fancy of everyone there. You don’t want to do something that isn’t you… but it maybe you are not virginal and white either! Figuring out what color your wedding ceremony is should reflect what color your relationship is…

Life is rich and we should call upon the richness of life and celebrate it in as many ways as we can!

You can do this too! Your love deserves nothing less!

Believing in you and your love,
Ann
